Banks in Bulgaria are open Monday / Friday from 9-12 and 15-17. Most restaurants are open from 11:00 to 24:00. Most shops are open from 10-20 hours. Museums are usually open from 10-17 hours.

The main camping organization in Bulgaria is the Bulgarian Association of Camping and Caravanning (bacc-camping.bg). It is prohibited to camp freely in nature.

Bulgaria has a Central European continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. South of the Balkan Mountains atmosphere is a milder climate with Mediterranean characteristics. Economy

General

The official name of Bulgaria is Republic of Bulgaria/ Republika Balgarija. Bulgaria is situated in Southeastern Europe, in the east of the Balkans and south of the Danube river.

Geography

Bulgaria has in the east 378 km coastline on the Black Sea. The country is bordered by Romania to the north (608 km) by Serbia (318 km) and Macedonia (148 km) to the west, by Greece (494 km) in the south and by European Turkey in the southeast. The Danube forms the bulk of the northern border. In the south are the Rhodope Mountains. Southeastern Bulgaria is called Thrace, the Thracians who lived in ancient times. The Danube, the Iskar, Maritsa and Strimon are the main rivers.

Government

Bulgaria is a parliamentary republic and is divided into 28 provinces. Bulgaria is a member of the EU since 2007 and is one of the five member states not participating in the Schengen Agreement.

Health
